Specialty cleaners, lubricants, corrosion preventives used during temper rolling, the final processing of certain steel sheet products. The QWERL® line will give you increased temper roll life, thus providing time and cost savings.

 Featured QWERL® temper mill fluid products include:

 In-Line Wet Temper Fluids

Diluted in water and applied to in-line temper mill rolls to remove solid contaminants from the roll and strip surface. It has excellent detergency to remove solids and improve performance. The fluid is compatible with galvanized steel surfaces and extends the roll life with reduced roll changes for dirt/zinc pickup. It is compatible with most typical rust preventive oils such as FERROCOTE® 61A US and FERROCOTE® EGL-1 for maximum performance.

Wet Temper Fluids
Diluted in water and used on temper mill rolls as a solution to remove iron, carbon and other contaminants from the roll and strip surface. This fluid improves strip quality by lessening roll in dirt defects, provides for superior detergency and features effective corrosion packaging for trapped water corrosion prevention.

High Extension Wet Temper Fluids
Provides lubrication for high-extension temper mill products. It is compatible with most typical rust preventive oils like FERROCOTE® 61A US and FERROCOTE® EGL-1 and features an effective nitrite-free corrosion package for trapped water corrosion prevention, synthetic ester lubrication package for high extensions or difficult grades of steel and excellent detergency to remove contaminates. This product is designed for a once-through direct application to mill rolls.

A major powertrain manufacturer was using an old soluble oil technology in four of their coolant systems. The soluble oil coolant usage for the facility was 247,926 gallons equating to $2,097,454 for soluble oils alone. Quaker was awarded the Chemical Management contract and wanted to show switching from their old soluble oils to premium fluids would Eliminate the following problems:

• Increased sump side additive costs
• Foul odors because of live and dead bacteria and fungi
• Increased risk of downtime due to blinding of filtration devices
• Poor mycobacteria resistance
• Increased dump schedule
• Increased manpower to re-charge central systems, make pesticide additions and cycle machines over down periods
• Increase system cleanout costs
• Increased additive costs
• Excessive centrifuging
• Increased scrap
• Increased waste treatment costs due to higher discharge levels

Quaker put together a proposal showing that although premium fluids cost more per gallon, the manufacturer would still achieve a chemical costs savings, as well as cost savings in the following areas:

• System cleanout

The manufacturer would also benefit from decreased downtime and improved productivity, along with a decrease in the health and safety concerns related to running soluble oil fluids. With this proposal Quaker gained approval to begin converting the systems to QUAKERCOOL® 3750 BF/3760 BF

A major producer of bearings wanted to accomplish the following at one of its manufacturing sites:

• Improve long-term corrosion protection
• Eliminate an aqueous process cleaning step
• Reduce manufacturing costs

The bearing producer was using an aqueous process cleaner, followed by heavy oil-based, long-term corrosion preventive oil.  Quaker recommended introducing FERROCOTE® , a final corrosion preventive to:

• Eliminate the process cleaner and cleaning step
• Make the handling process easier by replacing the heavy oil with the corrosion preventive
• Lower application costs

Pickle Line Rolling Oils

Specialty lubricants designed to protect the active steel surface formed during the pickling process from oxidation, staining, and discoloration. Like our specialty greases, these lubricants have been formulated with excellent lubricity and cleanliness. This helps to prevent scratching/gouging that can occur during coiling and to enhance burn-off in annealing. They can also be formulated with a variety of compatibility for various downstream processes to decrease possible contamination.

Pickling of metal is a process where a metal surface is treated to remove impurities like stains, rust and corrosion. This is very important to prevent imperfections on a product. The QUAKEROL® line of pickle oils are specifically designed and engineered for each customer’s specific needs.

Our pickle oils feature our unique ester blends that allow for evaporation and cleanliness out of anneal. The premium synthetic esters are effective boundary lubricants and require minimal maintenance.
